Work Experience Report:
For Work Experience, I worked at The Family Library in Douglas, just by Prospect Terrance. It's a charity organisation which helps young people and children to get out more and read books, other than stay inside and play games all day. They donate books to schools and go around on the Mobile Library to playgroups and people's home who can't make it to the main library.
I started on Tuesday and I was showed around the Library by one of the helpers, Kim. She showed me the different sections of where each age-group of books are. For example, the Red Section would contain books such as the Twilight Saga or the Harry Potter Series and the Red section is targeted for teenagers. Another helper, Verity, told me about the themes that were going on there, such as the Superhero week, and Chinese New Year.
Then, I set out to work on tidying the books (they were mostly put in the wrong place) and put them in Alphabetical order (Surnames of the authors). This took me about nearly the whole morning. Then, I had lunch. Then, I carried on with work (processing books, tidying up), since that morning, the Library had toddler-time activities.
On Wednesday, I went out on the Mobile Library with two other volunteers, Andy and Susanna. We went around Crosby, Darby and Peel, processing books and handing books out to people that can't make it to the Main Library. We went out for the whole day, finishing at around 4:10pm. It was very enjoyable and I thought that it was a great experience to be part of the Mobile Library, as it's very important to the Library.
On Thursday, I basically did the same as I did on Tuesday, with a few differences. Mary, the boss of the Library, wanted to see my animations and illustrations that I had done for the course. I showed them to her and she loved them. She said that the animation that I had done for the Make-A-Wish charity was very good and she loved the style and how I've managed to tell the story of the child, plus showing what the charity is about. And she thought that my charity poster was very very coloured and drawn and she loved the idea of drawing it in a child-like style.
Plus, she even advised me to continue my style with the up-coming projects and she had even advised me to draw a super-hero for their super-hero theme that they were doing at the Library.
On Friday, I tidied up the books, I processed some more books and finally, I drew the Super-hero. I wanted it to be a neko, which is a half-human, half-cat person, and also a cyber ghost of some sort. So I drew my hero and he came out really well. I named him Cyber-Ghost and the volunteers loved him. Kim took a picture of him, so that I could take to original copy home for memories of the Library.
Overall, I enjoyed my time at the Family Library, as it was very educational and it taught me a few things about how the volunteers raise money for other charities, as well as theirs, and as well as it being quiet, I felt like I really was part of the team as I had helped them with their work and also from going out in the Mobile Library. It was a great experience for me and I have to say... my all time favourite part was when I got to stamp the books.
